We’re installing the trim on Laurens’s Mustang, as well as the headliner ribs and a few minor metal repairs. We found a few metal cracks in the floorpans possibly due to a previous floorpan job, where the sheets’ welds came loose and began separating, so Tim welded new bead-lines to smooth out the seams.
Here’s Big Chief sorting through Laurens’ removed parts to determine which ones need cleaning/restoring before they are installed back onto the Mustang. Timbo is also repairing some of the damaged and missing studs that the windshield clips clip onto before we put the glass back in, and we are cleaning up a lot of interior parts in preparation for the re-assembly.
December 21- Laurens’ Interior Work
Tim installed the rear trim as we begin the re-assembly process bit-by-bit. We also did a little bit of grinding on the passenger’s kick panel where we found a little rust, and we also primed the dash panel over in gray prime, so that Laurens can pick his interior colors when his paint-man gets going.
December 18- Laurens’s Metalwork & Parts
We started pulling out all of Laurens’s parts and will be sorting them for those that need cleaning and those that are ready to be re-installed as we prep to re-assemble Laurens’s Mustang. Tim also did some grinding on the trunk lid and hood to get out the little bits of rust, then he etch primed it to keep it protected.
December 17- Laurens’ Painting and Grinding
In addition to grinding and priming numerous parts on Laurens’ Mustang, such as the trunk lid and the door jambs, Savannah also finished up the cowl work by undercoating over the seam seals so it looks good and helps harden the seal so it will last. Savannah also put etch prime and gray prime over the areas we have finished up on.
December 15- Laurens’ Glasswork and Water Test
Lot of stuff going on here! We checked out the trunk compartment after we did a lot of grinding to get rid of the surface rust, Big Chief did another water test on the cowl to make sure the seam seal is doing its job, and Savannah cleaned and wrapped the windshields until we get to the re-assembly stage.
December 11- Lauren’s Headlights, Grinding
We’ve begun the restoration of Laurens’ headlights and headlight buckets, while Tim continues to grind away at the metal that needs work, mostly in the trunk compartment and the rear quarter panels.
December 10- Lauren’s Priming
Here we are priming over the portions of Laurens’ Mustang that we have finished the metalwork on–as you can see, a lot of the main body is finished. We’ve also included photos of the seam sealant under the dash, around the cowl, where we just recently applied a second layer.
November 28- Laurens’s Metalwork, Air Vent Panel
We’re still doing lead filling and metalwork on Laurens’s Mustang, but these pictures are when we were focusing on his air vent panel, which had some irregularities and damage that we had to fill in and prime over and then sand smooth.
